A
behind the scenes look at how the lighting for the The lighting used for this years production consisted of the following:
Spots currently own 4 Fresnels and 6 parcan lights . The remainder of the lighting, including the control desk, dimmer packs and cables, were hired from Mike Andrews at LiteRelief in Segensworth. Mike has an extensive range of theatre lighting, staging and special effects equipment and has supported Spots productions since 1997.
Lighting Control desk The lighting desk used this year was the Frog made by Zero88 Lighting Ltd. The Frog is a 24/48 channel desk with DMX control capability to control lights, scrollers and scanners. The desk can be pre-programmed for each part of the production and can store up to 400 memories or 240 Sub masters as either scenes or chases. The FROG Lighting Desk from Zero88 DMX: The communications standard "DMX512" covers digital multiplexed signals. It is the most common communications standard used by lighting and related stage equipment. DMX512 data is transmitted at 250,000 bits per second using the RS-485 transmission standard over two wires. As with microphone cables, a grounded cable shield is used to prevent interference with other signals. DMX512 provides up to 512 control "channels" per data link. Each of these channels is sent over the data link as an 8-bit number having a value between 0 and 255. Today DMX is used to control much more than simple dimmer packs. In the Spots production of Cinderella we used DMX to control coloured scrollers, scanners and the strobe light. More information on DMX can be found at dmx512-online.com DMX Devices
