The SPOTS sound equipment

This is split into two distinct areas - the music generation equipment which is owned by Phil and the public address system which is jointly owned by SPOTS and the Swanwick Sports and Social Club.

Take a look at SPOTS Music

Phil's stuff:

Music for SPOTS shows is created almost entirely using a Yamaha W7 workstation.

Yamah W7
Yamaha W7 Workstation
This is essentially a musical computer which can reproduce the sound of thousands of instruments. Songs are created by playing each instrument sound part by part to build up a complete orchestra or band.

All the music is then digitally recorded to a PC via a Fostex DMT8 digital multitrack recorder. This is where we cheat a little if required by adding backing vocals or chorus to support the onstage singers.

From the multitrack recorder it is digitally imported into a PC and all the songs added to a cue list for playing by Vince the cue man during the show. Alongside this he uses a Yamaha SU10 sampler to play sounds such as bells, drumrolls or the famous SPOTS 'groat'!

SPOTS and SSSC stuff:

We are able to provide a full Public Address setup with a selection of stage, handheld and radio mics. Most of our equipment is supplied by Studiospares.

The heart of the system is the Soundcraft Spirit 600 mixer-amp.

All inputs channels have 3 band mid swept EQ, 100Hz High Pass filter@18dB/Octave, Inserts, Ultramic 60dB padless preamp, 3 Aux(1pre, 1 pre/post & 1 for onboard Lexicon FX), PFL Switching, Master sections feature: Integral patchbay, 2x7 band Graphic EQ on outputs, 1 stereo return, Subsonic Filter on outputs.. shall I go on...!?

The stage microphones are manufactured by AKG and are professional installation units designed for stage use. We have six in total, each with different properties to maximise voice amplification without causing feedback.

Trantec Radio Systems
The radio mic is a Trantec S2000 system, consisting of headset mic, lavelier (lapel) and line input for guitars etc.

The speaker system comprises two Yamaha PA monitors and two Peavy 150W powered foldback units. The foldback units are the wedge shaped ones that point at the stage. These enable those onstage to hear the music played during songs and dances.

This is supported with a Behringer Feedback Destroyer. A unit which filters out potential 'ringaround', enabling us to maintain a higher microphone sound level.

The broken PA!
Oh no the PA broke! Call an engineer!
